Burning Rangers is a futuristic firefighting game from Sonic Team for
the Sega Saturn. It's similar to the SNES game, The Ignition Factor, but
it's 3D and contains gameplay elements from NiGHTS and Sonic the Hedgehog
such as a grading system, crystals(similar to rings), a limit bar(sort of
like a time limit), and 2 characters to choose from. You play one of two
rookie firefighters fighting fire and rescuing people in 4 levels. The
first level takes 15 minutes to beat, but if you try finding everything,
it could take up to 30 minutes. Each level after the first gets
increasingly shorter, but they'll all take at least 10 minutes. Burning
Rangers has taken a lot of criticism for being so short, but people don't
seem to notice all the replay value it has. There's also a Voice
Navigation System that keeps you from getting lost(although it's wrong
sometimes). You even get mail from the people that you rescue(there's
108 victims and some of them send out more than one letter.) Once you
beat the game, a random generator is activated and it randomizes the level
you choose. Victims, gas tanks, crystals, backdrafts, rooms, doors,
switches, and enemies are ALL randomized in a preset way.

The grading system grades you in four areas: victims rescued, crystals,
boss time, and the fire limit. The grades start from D(lowest) to
S(highest). To get a total rank of an S, you need S's in all categories.

Rescued - the number of people you rescued.
Crystals - the number of crystals you beat the boss with including the
number of crystals used to save people.
Boss - the time it took you to beat the boss.
Limit - the limit percentage you end the level with.

After you beat the game, you are able to use the password feature. The
english manual is wrong when it says that the password at the end of each
mission is used to disable the random generator. It's actually the
password to the EXACT mission you just played. For example, if you get
the first mission with the front door blocked off and use the password at
the end of the level, you'll play that exact same mission again.

-remember that jumping will charge up your laser faster.

-memorize the level so that you'll be able to find all the crystals and
victims when the game's random mode kicks in.

-pay attention to the light sourcing as well as the sound to dodge fire.

-practice thrusting because you can do it infinitely. It's fast and
better than backflipping in certain situations.

-remember that you need 100% of the survivors.

-don't play this game after playing Dracula X

-remember that rescuing people also acts like a save spot and crystal
bank.

As the flames whip and intensify, the exhausted ten-year old Shou lets out
a desperate cry. A shimmering outline appears, extending a blood-soaked
glove to hurl the young boy to safety. Then- and in the countless
haunting dreams since then- Shou looks back to witness the phantasmic
Burning Ranger vaporize in a ball of flame... That was the day that
changed Shou's life, the day he recognized his destiny. Ten years later,
he too has earned the right to call himself a Burning Ranger, and maybe
someday he'll be able to repay his debt. <

Shou is one of the characters you can play in the beginning. He's an
egotistical rookie that Reed treats like a kid throughout the game. Even
though he's 21, his english voice actor sounds kinda Matthew Lawrence. He
also does this fruity thing with his fingers and says "Chill Out" one too
many times. For some reason he pronounces his name like "Shou I'm A
Barney"

others from the pain of untimely loss. Strength of character, limitless
compassion, and extraordinary physical dexterity made her a perfect
candidate for the Burning Rangers- her new family. <

She's the other character you can play in this game, but she has the same
moves as Shou and the rest of the team. Her english voice actor is just
as high-pitched as her japanese voice actor. It doesn't really make sense
that her birthday is unknown and that she has no last name. Yes, she is
annoying.

Reed joined fire-fighting after graduating high school- more for the
experience than out of any real desire to help people. However, once he
got involved in the job of actually saving lives, he quickly gained a
healthy respect for the business... Reed has nurtured himself the
perfect temperament for the role of a Burning Ranger. He's a cool
intellectual who always thinks before he leaps, thanks to an intense
awareness of the value of every life. <

Reed is one of the two half decent voice actors in the game. He sounds
just like his japanese counterpart. Throughout the game, he'll bother
Shou about being a rookie. It's annoying because Shou keeps answering him
with his annoying voice. Reed has the coolest looking gun in the game,
the "ICEMAN". He's also a cat lover, but I hate cats and I wish they had
cancer. Lead Phoenix, yeah right.
