II. @ INTRODUCTION @
=====================================================================
The Vantage Master games are ones that are rarely mentioned by
Western gamers, and that's a pity. They're a series of strategy
RPGs, rather in the vein of Front Mission and Tactics Ogre. Luckily
for us, Nihon Falcom has recently released one of them, Vantage
Master V2/Vantage Master Online as freeware! This is a Good Thing.

This FAQ in it's current stage is written to help you decide on who
to play as. The official game manual (see Links) is enough to teach
you how to play. Further information on individual map strategy and
the Natials may be added later, but for now the characters are our
focus here.

III. @ CHARACTER GENERATION @
=====================================================================
"You say you want new adventures and strength... I will accept that
wish of yours. But first... Tell me about yourself."

IIIa. @ CARDS @
=====================================================================
Dream: "It stands for illusion and fantasy."
Ego: "It stands for oneself and self reality."
Emblem: "It stands for honor, power, loyalty and battle."
Fair: "It stands for beauty, glory and attachment."
Karma: "It stands for reality and fate."
Sacred Book: "It stands for faith, devotion and tranquility."
Shine: "It stands for light and justice."
Shade: "It stands for shade, dakness (sid) and evil."
Trust: "It stands for trust, human relations and concern."
Twilight: "It stands for twilight, anxiety and neutrality."

IIIb. @ QUESTIONS @
=====================================================================
When starting a new game in one of the three Scenario modes (Easy,
Normal, and Expert), you'll be asked a series of four questions.
Your answers determine what cards you recieve, which in turn decide
what class your character will be. There are two different questions
for each grouping of cards. You WILL see each of the four groups,
but which style of question you get will be completely random.

Before immediately deciding upon which class to play, I recommend
just following along with the questions once or twice. Your results
might surprise you!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"You have come to the market looking for a new sword. You go
past the crows into the weapon shop and there you find a marvelous
looking sword. But the sword's price was far from what you could
pay. When you were just glazing (sic) at the sword, the
shopkeeper goes to the bathroom for a while. There were no other
customer in the shop besides you, and no one is looking. And it
is still very much crowded with people outside."

>> Steal the sword and run away. [Shade Card]
>> Buy a cheaper sword. [Twilight Card]
>> Look for a way to make money. [Shine Card]

-OR-

"While wlaking (sic) along the square, you find people gathered
around. A clown was being appluased pulling out some pigeons
from his pocket and flying them away. In frint (sic) of the clown,
there was a hat turned over with a few coins the audience threw in.
And now the clown began to perform a magic using cards. However,
you saw that magic before and already know that it's just a
fraud trick..."

>> Go past by. [Twilight Card]
>> Stop and look. [Shine Card]
>> Tell one of the audience how it's done. [Shade Card]

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"You were a mere footsoldier, but your bravery from the last
expedition was recognized and got to recieve reward from the king.
At the palace, the king commendates you and tells you to choose
one of three rewards freely. Which reward will you choose?"

>> Fancy jewelry. [Fair Card]
>> A storage full of wheat. [Sacred Book Card]
>> The status of an officer. [Emblem Card]

-OR-

"You are the one praised as the world's finest sculpter. But your
first apprentice has started his own career and achieved enough
skill to compete with you. The landlord commands the two of you
to compete for a statue of the goddess to donate to the temple.
The two of you were invited to the landlord's home and showed each
one's piece. And when you saw your apprentice's work, you felt
beaten. But the landlord has chosen your work. What will
you do..."

>> Recieve the honor. [Emblem Card]
>> Admit your defeat and retire. [Sacred Book Card]
>> Suggest to make it once more. [Fair Card]

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"A strong earthquake has occured and damaged the church wall. If
not repaired at once, it is likely to collapse. But the priest
blocks the magical tombstone strongly. The most damaged wall is
near the magical tombstone and if it isn't moved, repair is
impossible. But it is said that if the magical tombstone is moved,
the magic seal breaks and disaster would occur. You were the one
ordered to repair the church... What will you do?"

>> Go on with the repair. [Karma Card]
>> Repair to the possible extent. [Dream Card]

-OR-

"You have found a young fox caught in a hunter's trap. You felt
pity, but the wounds were deep and seemed it wouldn't live for long
even if you let it free. And it goes against hunters' rules to
touch other hunter's catch. So you decide to leave but the young
fox cries as if it were begging you. Will you let go of the young
fox?"

>> Let the fox go. [Dream Card]
>> Leave it as it is. [Karma Card]

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"You have decided to go together with a man you got to know during
your travel. Littel (sic) after going inside a deep forest, the
man sprained his ankle stepping in a muddy ground. He is able to
walk somehow, but it seems impossible to reach the next inn while
daylight. If you turn back, it is possible to return to the inn
you stayed last night although you get to waste a day for it. The
man insists on going forward not to mint him, but..."

>> Go on by yourself. [Ego Card]
>> Go back with the man. [Vacant Card]
>> Carry the man on your back. [Trust Card]

-OR-

"You were on a night patrol and ran into something strange.
A beast you have never seen before had a poor livestock in its
custody. It could be the magical beast rumored to appear these
days. Fortunately, it doesn't know you are looking. If you follow
it, you might get to find out where it lives. What will you do?"

>> Follow it alone. [Ego Card]
>> Call for backup. [Trust Card]
>> Forget what you have seen. [Vacant Card]

IV. @ CHARACTER CLASSES @
=====================================================================
As mentioned before, in Scenario play, the four cards you recieve
determine what class you are. There are three possible combinations
for each class, along with a special hidden character that can be
unlocked with an appropriate name (when available; they are case
sensitive).

NOTE! The numbers on the statistics charts run VERTICALLY. This is
done for organizational reasons. It's not a difficult thing to
figure out, but I suppose it's better to state that fact than to
possibly confuse people.
