Welcome to my bribes FAQ, based on the bribing side of Freelancer, the space
flying/trading/shooting game made for PC. This FAQ is based on a GameFAQs
messageboard topic that was written by Saige, and therefore all credit goes to
him for listing all the bribes, I just wrote the FAQ.
If you want to put this FAQs on a public or private site, please ask me for
permission before you do so. If you do get permission, then you must follow
these three simple rules:
(1) This FAQ must display the correct credit (i.e. someone else wrote this, and
that wasn't you)
(2) This FAQ must not be altered at all (i.e. don't add extra words or delete any
words I have written)
(3) This FAQ must be for non profit (i.e. I didn't get any money out of this,
neither should you...)
Freelancer is copyright of Digital Anvil and Microsoft. I am in no way
affiliated with either of these two companies and I am not recieving any money
from this. I just wanted to help...

UPDATE HISTORY

02/05/03
Welcome to my FAQ giving details all the bribes located in Freelancer. This FAQ
is based on a list that was posted on the GameFAQs Freelancer messageboard by
Saige, and therefore, all credit goes out to him for making the list and giving
me permission to write an FAQ about it. There are however, a few factions that
haven't been included (e.g. Bretonia police, Kusari navy), so the list isn't fully
completed yet. If he or someone else finds any other bribes that aren't listed,
then send them to me through my email and I'll update the FAQ with the new bribe
locations.
These are the factions that aren't listed yet:
- Ageira Technologies
- Blood Dragons
- Bretonia Armed Forces
- Bretonia Mining and Minerals (BMM)
- Bretonia Police
- Farmers Alliance
- Interspace Commerce
- Kusari Naval Forces
- Kusari State Police
- Liberty Navy
- Liberty Security Force
- Planetform

BRIBES, WHAT THEY ARE, AND WHAT THEY DO
---------------------------------------
What are bribes?
Bribes are basically a way of getting a particular organization to improve your
reputation with them so that you are on friendly terms with them. Basically, this
means that if an organization really doesn't like you, then with a quick word and
an exchange of cash, you can get them to like you again, thus allowing you access
to their bases and weapons, as well as allowing them to give you missions and
information.
However, you can only bribe them up to the minimum point where they are friendly
to you. If you do absolutely anything that will affect your reputation with them
negatively, then you are back to being neutral with them.
How much do bribes cost?
Basically, the more hostile you are with a faction, then the more money you have
to spend to get them to become friendly with you. If you are at maximum hostility
with a faction, then you must pay $150,000 in order to place them at friendly
status.
Note that you cannot set the amount of money to bribe to set the reputation of
the faction at a determined level. You either pay the full amount of money in that
bribe to get you to friendly status, or you'll have to leave. It's that simple.
Oh, and just to make sure you don't try it, you can't bribe a faction you are
already on friendly terms with.
So where can I make these bribes?
You can make bribes on any base or habitable planet in Sirius. However, certain
bribes can only be found randomly in certain predetermined locations. Obviously
you can mostly make bribes with organizations at the bases they own, but you can't
make bribes with hostile organizations if they won't let you onto their base. In
this case you have to find a base that does give you bribes with the organization
you're trying to make friendly. For example, Zoner bases tend to let you bribe
criminal organizations as they allow criminals onto their bases.
What about my reputation with other factions? Are they affected?
A bribe doesn't just affect the organization you're bribing, it also affects your
reputations with other factions as well one way or another. If any factions are allied
with a faction that you are bribing, then your reputation with those factions will
increase. If however any factions are hostile towards the faction you are bribing,
your reputation with those factions will decrease.
A simple example is the relationship between law-abiding factions (police forces,
corporations) and criminal factions (Outcasts, Liberty Rogues, etc.). If you bribe
a law-abiding faction, criminal factions aren't going to be too happy and will become
more hostile, whereas if you bribe a criminal faction, then corporations and police
will not be happy with you and become more hostile instead.
When you bribe a faction, the person you are talking to who is suggesting the bribe
will often state three factions who will be neagtively affected when you accept the
bribe. Be aware though that there will be other factions who will be negatively
affected, so use the three factions as an example.
The only time where all this is not applicable is with the Zoners, since they have
no allies and no enemies, so there won't be any changes to anyone else's reputation.
(Hint: Don't bother bribing the Xenos unless you really need to, everyone hates them
except the Zoners and IMG...)
I've landed at a base, but the bribe I want wasn't there? Are you sure this list is
correct?
Bribes appear randomly at predetermined locations, which are all listed below. Just
because the bribe isn't there at this point in time, it doesn't mean the bribe won't
be there. There are two ways of getting around this:
1) Leave the station and come back another time.
2) Save your game at the bar in the base you're at, then load that save game. The
bar's customer layout changes and the bribe might appear. If it doesn't, just reload
the game until the bribe appears.
Are there any other ways of improving my reputation?
